New BoSS chief vows to stabilize economy

January 7, 2022 (JUBA) – The newly-appointed governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Moses Makur Deng has pledged to improve as well as stabilize the economy of the young East African country.

Deng made the remarks during his swearing-in ceremony attended by President Salva Kiir in the country’s capital, Juba on Wednesday.

He thanked the president for appointing him and called on the South Sudan government to fast track the implementation of the peace agreement and continue with reforms to narrow the credibility gap.

Kiir on Monday appointed the new governor to replace Dier Tong Ngor.

The president urged the new governor, who also doubles as the chairperson of the Central Bank’s Board of Directors, to continue with the economic reform program in order to stabilize the local currency.

Also, the president at the swearing-in ceremony was the Finance Minister, Agak Achuil Lual who vowed to support the economy of South Sudan.

“Comrades, Moses Makur and I will work together to help His Excellency the president of the republic to stabilize the economy. We will work closely with all the institutions and officials to ensure policies to promote and improve monetary policies are unveiled”, he assured.

For his part, the first deputy Central Bank governor, Johnny Ohisa Damian commended the Finance Minister for reducing the arrears of government employees, adding that he is confident that the new governor will contribute more to the economic reform in the country.
