The dream of Kenya’s Under-20 football team of clinching a third-place finish at the Cecafa Under-20 Championship went up in smoke Wednesday afternoon in Tanzania after they were forced to eat humble pie losing 2-1 to the fast-rising South Sudan.

Kenyan saw her quest of making a maiden appearance at the Under-20 Africa Nations Cup set for Mauritania next year dashed when they failed to clinch a ticket to the final and today afternoon South Sudan further twisted the knife on their backs with two clinical goals for a 2-1 win.

Philip Biajo put the Sudanese head in the second minute but Kenyan quickly swung back eight minutes later through Nicholas Ochieng before Nelson Elia had the final say, five minutes to the break.

The Sudanese then held on for a win in the second stanza to leave Stanley Okumbi coached side crestfallen.
