President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed, on Tuesday, Egypt’s determination to enhance bilateral cooperation and provide support to South Sudan.
The Egyptian President’s remarks came during a meeting with Tut Gatluak, Presidential Advisor on Security and Special Envoy for Sudan’s Peace Affairs.
At the meeting, Al-Sisi confirmed Egypt’s keenness to help South Sudan in its development and construction process. He added that South Sudan holds abundant and inherent wealth from which it can benefit, to meet its citizens’ aspirations for a better future.
The meeting was also attended by Abbas Kamel, Director of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) and South Sudan’s Minister of Investment Daew Matouk.
Gatluak conveyed a message on behalf of South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, who extended an invitation for Al-Sisi to join in the final signing ceremony of Sudan’s peace agreement, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
The agreement is set to be signed by the South Sudanese transitional government and the country’s armed movements, with the signing ceremony to be held in the country’s capital, Juba, in early October.
Al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the invitation, which confirms the efforts made by Egypt to support stability in South Sudan and enhance the historical ties and distinguished relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed the latest political developments in South Sudan, hailing Egypt’s role in supporting South Sudanese and regional stability.
The Egyptian President added that establishing security and stability is the guarantee for achieving construction and development in Southern Sudan.
The meeting between the two sides also tackled a number of regional issues of mutual interest, including the water security issues and Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis.
