
(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations told a UN Security Council online meeting on Tuesday that Vietnam hopes Sudan and South Sudan governments will soon find a peaceful solution to the Abyei conflict in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and the agreement they signed on in June, 2011.

He called on Sudan and South Sudan to strengthen coordination with the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in COVID-19 response, and praised the efforts of UNISFA, especially the participation of its female forces in protecting civilians. He also voiced his support for extending the UNISFA mandate, as recommended by the UN Secretary-General.
