October 12, 2014 (WAU) – Officials from the Catholic University in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state have appealed for financial support to aid its expansion.
Solomom Ewot, a faculty director as the university said on Saturday that the institution still requires land for the construction of students’ hostels and other facilities.
“The challenges in accommodation have greatly impacted on admission of students, especially female, from far flung areas and neighbouring Sudan. We are appealing to the state government to allocate some land for construction of hostels and for practical lessons for our agriculture students,” he said at the university’s fifth anniversary event.
The university students’ union was also inaugurated at the ceremony marked with prayers and performance by cultural dance groups.
Ewot also commended the institution’s various supporters, saying the student population at the institution had remarkable grown to over 1,000.
“Our main aim is to prepare graduates for entrepreneurship upon leaving the university, saying that the dwindling employment opportunities called for creation of jobs by graduates,” he said.
The first batch of students at the university will graduate next month, Ewot disclosed.
