New Flydubai route to South Sudan

Fly to the capital of one of the world's newest countries next month. Flydubai (www.flydubai.com) will launch a route to Juba on April 21, with four flights a week departing from Dubai's Terminal 2. Fares start at Dh2,380 return, including taxes and 20kg of checked luggage. Lonely Planet describes Juba as a "bustling boom town full of government officials, business people, refugees, oil men, NGO workers and South Sudanese recently returned from exile abroad", and says the country's other highlights include Boma and Nimule National Park.

From Cairo to Constantinople

View some of the earliest photographs of the Middle East in a new exhibition opening in Edinburgh on March 8. Cairo to Constantinople charts a four-month trip taken in 1862 by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), accompanied by photographer Francis Bedford, the first to travel on a royal tour. The trip took the prince to Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece and the exhibition reflects the importance of the region in the Victorian age. The display will be at the Queen's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse until July 21; it will then show at the Queen's Gallery in Buckingham Palace, London, from October 31, 2014, until February 22, 2015.
