The South Sudanese government has dismissed reports that its embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, has been closed, saying the mission remains operational despite a temporary technical issue that affected some of its operations.
In a public address, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said reports circulating in the media concerning the operations of the embassy were inaccurate.
“The embassy in Nairobi has not closed. A temporary technical issue affected some of its operations and the matter is being resolved,” the ministry said.
The ministry also rejected reports alleging that other South Sudanese diplomatic missions abroad had been shut down.
The ministry emphasised South Sudan’s diplomatic missions outside the country remain operational and continue to carry out their diplomatic functions.
“The Republic of South Sudan's diplomatic missions abroad remain operational and continue to discharge their diplomatic functions,” the ministry said.
The ministry’s clarification comes in response to reports by media outlets concerning the status of the South Sudanese embassy in Nairobi and claims about the alleged closure of other diplomatic missions.
It said the technical issue affecting the Nairobi embassy was temporary and that efforts were underway to resolve the matter.
The ministry urged members of the public and media organisations to rely on official government channels when seeking information about the operations of South Sudanese diplomatic missions.
“The ministry advises the public and the media to rely on official channels for information concerning the operations of South Sudan's diplomatic missions abroad,” it said.
