The Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Group B qualifying campaign with a home match against South Sudan following the release of the fixtures by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to the fixture schedule, Malawi will face South Sudan during Matchday One, which will be played between 21 September and 6 October 2026, before travelling to face Angola in Matchday Two within the same window.
The Flames will then face Egypt in back-to-back fixtures during the November 2026 international window. Malawi will first travel to Egypt for Matchday Three before hosting the Pharaohs in Matchday Four, with both matches scheduled between 9 and 17 November 2026.
Malawi will return to action in March 2027, travelling to South Sudan for Matchday Five before concluding the group campaign with a home match against Angola during Matchday Six. The final two matchdays are scheduled between 22 and 30 March 2027.
The Flames are in Group B alongside Egypt, Angola and South Sudan. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Head coach Kalisto Pasuwa earlier described the group as fair, but stressed the need for unity, proper preparation and collective effort if Malawi are to qualify.
“It is a fair draw in my opinion as we all have to play all the teams. Yes, we played Egypt back then and a lot has changed since. Every game is a new game. To qualify, we have to play first and as Malawi, we just need to pull in the same direction and avoid infighting. It is a collective effort,” said Pasuwa.
The Flames will be aiming to return to the continental stage after last qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, where they reached the Round of 16.
