September 27, 2023, (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir is in Moscow for bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin his office said on Wednesday.

The minister for the Presidency, Barnaba Marial Benjamin it will be an opportunity for Kiir to explain the peace implementation process and preparation for the coming elections.

Also, to be discussed are the arms and sanctions imposed on South Sudan, he said.

While addressing the United Nations General Assembly last week, Kiir called for uplighting of the arms embargo and global support for the ongoing war in neighbouring Sudan.

At least 20.3 million people across Sudan are acutely food insecure and need food and livelihood assistance between July and September 2023, according to the latest integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) on the war-torn country.
