(VOVWORLD) - President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa and his South Sudan counterpart Salva Kiir met in Pretoria on Thursday to discuss shared concerns, including the conflict in Sudan and the fragile peace process in South Sudan.
Sudan descended into a political crisis in April, which has forced over 100,000 South Sudanese refugees to return to their home or flee to other countries. According to the UN, the migration aroused the concern about a new tribal conflict.
The UN Security Council has called for a halt to fighting in Sudan, the protection of civilians, the scaling up of humanitarian assistance to Sudan and neighboring countries, support for humanitarian workers, and respect for international humanitarian law.
The two leaders also discussed the implementation of the September 2018 revitalized peace agreement which was signed by President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar to share power and form a unity government.
