3 killed, 3 injured in Tonj East cattle raids

Officials in Tonj East County of South Sudan's Warrap State said three people were killed and three injured in two consecutive cattle raids on Saturday and Sunday. 

Luka Marial, the Malual Chum Payam Administrator said despite the two cattle raids, the security situation is calm after intervention by the forces in the area. 

"The security situation is currently fine but we don't know what will happen in the Toch area where cattle graze. On date 27 (Sunday), fighting took place at Adeet cattle camp where two persons died from Akok youth and three injured and this was caused by Kongor youth. No cattle were raided," he explained. "On 26 Kongor armed youth killed a shepherd and raided several cattle in Majur village."

He added, "The county commissioner and commander of disarmament forces yesterday (Sunday) went to Toch area with forces and recovered 3,00 cattle from raiders and returned them to owners but the criminals ran away."

Meanwhile, Tonj East, Warrap state Area member of Parliament of constituency Number 25 Moses Madoot confirmed the incidents and said the disarmament is going on well.

"The disarmament program is going on very well and these are criminals who are reported and are now been searched by the disarmament forces. People in Tonj East need peace," Madoot added.

This is the first cattle raid since the state government launched a peaceful disarmament campaign in the state’s restive Greater Tonj area.
