South Sudan Yet to Realize Much at Stake over Higlig Attack: Nafie - Sudan Vision

Khartoum – An armed force from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) which was on reconnaissance mission to Higlig clashed with the SPLA but the SAF force defeated them, seizing two tanks and ten vehicles, Presidential Assistant, Nafie Ali Nafie, has revealed.

Nafie, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), confirmed that SAF is advancing towards Higlig and now just 20 km away from the town and their morale is high and anxious to boot out SPLA from the area.

Addressing agriculturalists and pastoralists conference, Nafie said Higlig is not the target; the Government of South Sudan is seeking to capture South Kordofan and then proceed to Khartoum, warning a powerful retaliation should South Sudan refuse to listen to international calls.

He highlighted calls by the US and western countries to South Sudan to pull out forces from Higlig, vowing a mighty retaliation by the Sudanese Government if the situation is not corrected.

He said Salva Kiir embarrassed the UN Secretary General by rejecting calls to withdraw from Higlig, adding that Government of South Sudan does not seem to have realized the seriousness of its action.

The Presidential Assistant criticized stances of some political forces which failed to condemn the aggression on Higlig, saying the aggression was not condemned by the Turabi-led Popular Congress Party (PCP), accusing these forces of providing intelligence to agents, warning them not to fish in troubled waters.
