National champions Ulinzi Warriors open their Africa Basketball League (BAL) campaign against Cobra Sport of South Sudan in Johannesburg, South Africa tomorrow.
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary Ambrose Kisoi yesterday confirmed that Ulinzi are in Johannesburg for the championship.
The soldiers' second game in the Division East Group H2, will see them take on Mozambican champions Ferroviaro de Beira on Thursday.
Kisoi revealed that Ugandan champions City Oilers and Tanzania's Kurasini Heats have pulled out of the tournament. Cobra Sport will parade their new signing, who is the Kenya Morans national team centre Tom Wamukota. Cobra lured Wamukota from the Patriots of Rwanda.
The top six teams from the South African Championship will qualify for the finals.
Already clubs from Egypt, Tunisia, Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, and Rwanda are in the finals. The other teams playing in Group H1 are Cape Town Tigers (South Africa), New Star (Burundi), and Matero Magic (Zambia).
Ulinzi finished second in the qualifiers in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania last month behind group winners New Star (Burundi) and Cobra Sport (South Sudan).
The soldiers are currently leading the men's premier league with 40 points from 21 matches followed by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
