Accra, June 3, GNA - The Air Force of theGhana Armed Forces (GAF) has resupplied the Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT 7), GhanaCompany (GHANCOY 1) in Bentiu and Aweil, serving with the United Nation MissionIn South Sudan (UNMISS), with needed logistics.

The resupply would enable the Battalion andCOY execute their mandate efficiently and effectively.

This was contained in a statement issued tothe Ghana News Agency on Monday by Sub Lieutenant Ako Nai, Press andInformation Officer of the Ghanaian Battalion in South Sudan.

The statement said the flight of the GhanaAir Force CASA C-295, with registration GHF 552, which landed on Wednesday, May29, 2019, incidentally marked the International Peacekeepers’ Day, as the12-member crew, arrived at the Rubkona Airfield, to jubilation by troops.

It said the feat, organised with the tacitaegis of the Government of Ghana and the Military High Command, was to enhancethe operational, administrative and logistical resources of the battalion intheir mandate of Force Protection, operational efficiency and effectiveadministration of troops in their area of responsibility.

The Commanding Officer of UNMISS GHANBATT 7,Lt Col Antwi Awuah Darkwa, deemed the effort a historic show of concern by theMinistry of Defence and the Military High Command to its troops deployedoutside the shores of Ghana, adding that, the use of GAF’s CASA C-295, projectsthe capabilities of the Ghana Air Force in particular and GAF in general.

The Commanding Officer mentioned that theresupply had boosted the morale of the troops and reinforced their loyalty totheir country and confidence in the leadership of GAF.

He expressed his gratitude on behalf of histroops to the Commander in Chief of GAF, Minister for Defence, the CDS, ServiceCommanders and the Department of International Peace Support Operations fortheir commitment to troops in the field.

He thanked the flight crew for theirprofessionalism.

The statement said the CASA C-295 crew,captained by Wing Commander Boadu, expressed their delight in making theirmaiden flight to South Sudan and was happy to bring aid to their comrades in amission area, especially on the celebration of International Peacekeepers’ Day.

It said the stores resupplied included;ordinance stores, communication, engineering, media equipment, maintenancespares, gym and other welfare stores.
