The First Vice President of South Sudan, Taban Deng Gai, has urged citizens to support the Transitional Government of National Unity, in order to bring a lasting peace in the country.
Deng Gai is in Yei to assess the general situation in the State and urge civilians to return there.
But according to South Sudan media, the visit is part of the First Vice President’s plan, to sensitize the population and members of armed opposition faction, who have not responded to his calls to cease hostilities and go to cantonment sites.
Although he claims to control rebel fighters in the area, he has shown no authority to end atrocities in Yei and neighboring areas.
Tens of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes, following the insecurity.
