Ethiopian, South Sudan Armies To Collaborate On Border Security

GAMBELLA, ETHIOPIA, Jan 23 (BERNAMA-NNN-ENA) -- Senior army officers from Ethiopia and South Sudan have signed an agreement to collaborate on issues related to ensuring peace and security along their common border.

The head of the Ethiopian delegation to a meeting between the armies of both countries, Brigadier-General Zewdu Belay, and South Sudanese delegation leader Major-General Gebriel Jock, signed the agreement in Gambella town on Tuesday.

The head of Gambella State, Umod Ubong, stressed the need for the security forces of Ethiopia and South Sudan to work together to increase the benefits of peace and security to peoples of the two countries.

Umod said maintaining reliable peace and security along the common border enabled both sides to further boost people-to-people ties and economic relations between the two countries.

"Successful activities have been carried out to extradite wanted criminals and anti-peace forces between the two countries," he said.

Gen. Zewdu said the two countries were undertaking integrated activities to ensure sustainable peace and security along their common border.
