[VOVWORLD] - The Ministry of National Defense presented the President’s decisions to two military officers assigned to the United Nations peacekeeping missions, at a ceremony on Monday in Hanoi.
Captain Nguyen Ngoc Anh from the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations is appointed Logistics Staff Officer at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). Captain Nguyen Van Nam, a deputy commander of the Chemical Arms Corps is appointed Military Observer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army hailed the achievements of Vietnamese military personnel in UN peacekeeping missions over the past more than 12 years.
Lt. Gen. Tan, who is also Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Vietnam’s Participation in UN Peacekeeping Operations, said he's confident that Capt. Anh and Capt. Nam will fulfill their assigned duties and uphold the traditions of the Vietnam People's Army and Vietnam's peacekeeping forces.
Both officers have completed their pre-deployment trainings and UN peacekeeping courses in Vietnam and abroad. They have met all requirements for their respective positions.
Anh previously served as an administrative officer with Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 4 at UNMISS from 2022-2023, while Nam has received specialized training for his upcoming role as a military observer.
