Ruto highlights progress in South Sudan, urges continued peace efforts in meeting with Jakaya Kikwete

President William Samoei Ruto has emphasised the need for cooperation among stakeholders to combat instability throughout the continent and called for concerted action to guarantee permanent peace in Africa.

In a statement, Ruto said that cooperation is necessary for a lasting peace in Africa, pointing out that all parties involved must cooperate to put an end to gun violence, maintain peace, and create stability.

The president emphasised South Sudan's development over time, citing significant accomplishments since the country's independence in 2011 and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

He stated that, despite obstacles, the nation has made significant progress and that Kenya and the broader region have remained steadfast in assisting South Sudan through both its achievements and setbacks.

He stated, "Since then, Kenya and the region have walked with the people of South Sudan in their triumphs and challenges."

The topic of discussion was South Sudan's current state, with a focus on continuing attempts to maintain peace initiatives and stabilise the nation.

The involvement reflects ongoing efforts at the regional and continental levels to support peacebuilding initiatives, especially in vulnerable governments in the Horn of Africa.
