HYDERABAD: Students and natives of the Republic of South Sudan in Hyderabad came together to celebrate its 12th Independence Day on Sunday, in the presence of the First Secretary of the South Sudan Embassy in New Delhi.
Martin Daniel Mande, the special guest on the occasion, read the message of their country’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit, informing of elections in 2014. He urged students to acquire knowledge in India and make their country prosperous. "It is a crime if you don’t acquire the education which is offered to you and return home,"
The event was organised by Integro Hospital, which is consulting foreign students for free medical aid. Integro’s CEO Dr Shaima gave the keynote address, while Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, a grandson of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, initiated the celebrations and extended his greetings.
Students and guests rendered the national anthems of India and South Sudan. Students also performed cultural programmes and exhibited dances showcasing the indigenous culture of their country.
Prof C. Ganesh, principal of Arts College, Osmania University, the chief guest, said: "Students must note the importance and power of knowledge. India opens its arms for those who seek knowledge."
OU’s deputy registrar K. Rajender, meanwhile, spoke of the various academic courses and ways for foreign nationals to get admissions.
Dr Faizulla, MD of Integro, said, "The relationship between Sudan and India should become stronger. Medical support is a way to build a relationship with Sudan, where our medical professional can set up medical centres, as well as bring in medical tourism to our state."
Achal Lual, a Sudanese student, said: "Hyderabadi people are so friendly. They always extend their hand for help. We are so jubilant and surprised to celebrate our Independence Day here."
