
Minister of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan Barnaba Marial Benjamin, head of his country's delegation participating in the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which kicked off Sunday said that Qatar's hosting of the conference is evidence of the prominent role it plays at the global level.
His Excellency added in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Qatar has succeeded in hosting major international events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and has proven to the world that the countries of the region are capable of hosting and organizing major events, adding that Qatar plays a major role not only regionally but also globally.
He pointed out that LDC5 is a great step forward for LDCs and is of particular importance to South Sudan as a developing country recovering from war and seeking peace and stability to bring about development, noting that the convening of the conference comes at an important time and in light of increasing global challenges such as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its impact on all countries, in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic and high levels of inflation amongst others, adding that this conference is significant and sends important messages to major countries regarding global security and stability and its importance to the LDCs.
The Minister of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan stated that arrangements are underway for the visit of the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit to the State of Qatar before the end of this year to strengthen bilateral relations.He stressed that the Republic of South Sudan has good ties with the State of Qatar and seeks to expand its bilateral relations in the fields of agriculture, aviation, and infrastructure projects, pointing out that Qatari organizations such as Qatar Charity, the Qatar Red Crescent Society and the Qatar Fund For Development have effective contributions in supporting LDCs.
