
Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in South Sudan have celebrated International Women’s Day-2022 on Tuesday. The programme was organized at the initiative of BANBAT-5 based in Wau province of South Sudan.
The event was attended by members of BANBAT-5, officials of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), local administration and the general public.
The day is celebrated by organizing rallies, discussion meetings and special medical services for local women with UNMISS and local women.Western Bahr el-Ghazal’s governor was the chief guest at the event. Also present on the occasion were South Sudan’s Minister for Gender Child and Social Welfare, DG Primary Health Services, Head of Office of UNMISS, Sector Commander of South-West Sector, Contingent Commander of BANBAT-5 and officials of UNMISS and local administration.
Speakers on the occasion expressed their determination to build the future by working side by side with the principle ‘Breaking the Bias’.
Apart from the culture of South Sudan, the female members of the contingent of Bangladesh highlighted the culture of Bangladesh and the progress of Bangladesh in women's empowerment in the cultural program organized at Bangladesh-South Sudan the Friendship Youth Centre.
Mentionable that, Bangladesh-South Sudan Friendship Youth Centre was inaugurated by Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on February 20 this year.
