Lviv, Ukraine, Mar 8 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskyy on Tuesday recalled Ukrainian peace forces from all the United Nations peace missions across the world to bolster the country’s defense against the Russian military offensive
Verkhovna Rada, or the legislature, of Ukraine made the announcement on Telegram stating that the president had recalled all peacekeeping forces with the aim of protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
According to the web-page of the permanent representation of Ukraine to the UN, the country has been contributing to the organization’s peacekeeping missions since 1992.
Ukrainian soldiers are a part of UN peacekeeping missions in six parts of the world, namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Cyprus, Kosovo, Abyei – between Sudan and South Sudan – and Mali.
The largest contingent of Ukrainian peacekeeping forces is located in Democratic Republic of the Congo. EFE
