The Catholic Church is working on reopening its health training institute at Wau in South Sudan.

On Saturday, the president of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference, Bishop Rudolph Deng, and the Auxiliary Bishop of Khartoum, Daniel Adwok, agreed with the Minister of Presidential Affairs in South Sudan, Dr. Luka Biong Deng, to outline procedures for training facilities at Wau Health Training Institute.

Assessments have already been carried out regarding renovation and operation of the institute, Catholic Bakhita Radio in juba reported. The two bishops visited Juba to discuss with the region's Ministry of Health possibilities of reopening the school to provide services to the Sudanese people.

About 60 religious congregations have pledged support and are ready to collaborate in the renewal of the Wau Health Training Institute to answer the pressing health needs in Southern Sudan.

For many years, the institute prepared Sudanese health professionals in the fields of curative and preventive medicine until the civil war forced it to close down.
