July 12, 2023 (London, United Kingdom) — Today, the United Kingdom sanctioned six businesses fueling conflict in Sudan through their links to the two warring sides, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The sanctions will freeze any assets held by the six businesses in the UK, aiming to cut funding sources and place pressure on the two sides to put an end to the ongoing hostilities. Of the six commercial entities targeted by the sanctions, three are associated with the RSF (Al-Junaid, GSK Advance Company Ltd, and Tradive General Trading co) and three with the SAF (Defense Industries Systems (DIS), Sudan Master Technology, and Zadna International Company for Investment Limited).
Oliver Windridge, Senior Advisor to The Sentry, said: "Today's action by the UK is a powerful public signal that the UK is taking the conflict in Sudan seriously. But it is just a start. To be effective, today's actions must be the beginning of coordinated, comprehensive efforts to use sanctions and other financial tools to exert pressure on the warring parties to cease hostilities and bring peace to Sudan. The people of Sudan who have suffered for too long deserve nothing less."

About The Sentry
(Short descriptor for press use: “The Sentry, an investigative organization that tracks corruption”)
The Sentry is an investigative and policy organization that seeks to disable multinational predatory networks that benefit from violent conflict, repression, and kleptocracy. Pull back the curtain on wars, mass atrocities, and other human rights abuses, and you’ll find grand corruption and unchecked greed. These tragedies persist because the perpetrators rarely face meaningful consequences. The Sentry aims to alter the warped incentive structures that continually undermine peace and good governance. Our investigations follow the money as it is laundered from war zones to financial centers around the world. We provide evidence and strategies for governments, banks, and law enforcement to hold the perpetrators and enablers of violence and corruption to account. These efforts provide new leverage for human rights, peace, and anti-corruption efforts. Learn more: www.TheSentry.org
