By: Deng Emmillo Mou, South Africa-Pretoria,

This Was the message by His Excellency President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Executives Government of South Sudan, on Workers’ Day on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Great Workers of South Sudanese, I bring you, today, a message of goodwill.

Let me begin by thanking you for keeping the economic wheels of South Sudan going strong. Whether you work in an office or ply your trade, you are the reason we celebrate.

Today is your day!

We are happy to be your partners in progress.

When we came into government almost 17 years ago, our plan was to make life better for everyone in South Sudan. We knew it was not going to be an easy task; we knew that sometimes our motives would be misunderstood; it was clear that we would have opposition; But we were determined to remain focused on engineering a modern South Sudan.

Today, we celebrate our successes as we see the impact of the work of our hands.

Look around you.

The smiling faces you see – These are the true faces of the workers in South Sudan. This is the future of the economic and Development outlook of South Sudan.

Great workers of South Sudan are you there?

The civil servants are smiling because they know that the 25th of every month is the day they get their salaries.

The pensioners are happy because they know that as the civil servants are getting their salaries, they are getting their pensions paid too.

The market men and women are happy because when workers get their salaries, they will come to the market and buy from them every day.

The private sector is happy because we continue to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. We have seen improvements in every sector, especially in agribusiness development.

While some choose to give farmers and traders tokens, we are investing in human capital development. In the last year, we have trained 3,300 youths in agribusiness and have begun to provide enterprise support for some of these youths. In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out a more robust support system for these young people of our great Nation South Sudan.

Our approach to development has attracted investors and development partners. Presently, we are partnering with the World Bank, the African Development Bank, France and Netherlands on various projects in South Sudan.

We see the impact in the number of people who are choosing South Sudan as the destination for their businesses. In the last year, we have seen numerous local businesses spring up in South Sudan.

As we see the impact of all the work we have done in South Sudan so far, we are motivated to do even more.

We know that one of the reasons businesses are choosing south Sudan is because of the relative security we have been enjoying in the country. Therefore, we are not resting on our oars regarding securing our dear country.

Just recently, we beefed up the security architecture of South Sudan with 100 operational vehicles for our Amotekun Corps and we are improving their operations with other new recruits.

In keeping with our belief that where roads go, development follows, we are continuing with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across all zones in South Sudan. We are already seeing the impact of the reconstruction of the Some kms of Juba Bor Road, Juba Yei Road, and many other Roads from the Capital City of South Sudan to the neighbouring States. The Road reconstruction is progressing, and at the same time, the Road construction of Juba Road to Barh El Ghazal region is ongoing well.

I  appealed to the workers to remain steadfast in their jobs with minding the rot in the service occasioned by the good leadership of the Sudan People's liberation Movement SPLM led by H. E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit. Also the People of South Sudan and workers deserve better welfare, remuneration and conditions of service.

Great South Sudan Workers!

This is another year to renew our pledge to you.

We will not stop, we will not waver, we remain focused on improving the economy of South Sudan for the benefit of you, the good people of South Sudan.

I prayed that this May will be fair to South Sudanese individually and collectively as a people with a common heritage. I wish all citizens of South Sudan a happy and prosperous new month.

God bless you all.
