Without the people the existence of the world would be of no significance at all, this therefore indicates that people are the sources of authority, governments and wealth as well as the resources. “What about the people?” is the question that comes in a time where the people’s expectations seem not to have been met or the concerns of the masses not yet addressed fully. As South Sudan is recovering from the troubles that muddled and divided our communities, it is vital to have the leadership of the country organized and reconciled but it is also vital to have organization and reconciliation comprehensive in order for the leaders and the people they govern move at the same pace.

It is great accomplishment to have relative stability in some regions in the country today and at the same time, it is great to have the leadership structures fully setup in order to serve “the people” who need direction and strength to rebuild their lives as per the vital plans setup by their government and contribute to social and economic growth?

Economic and social growth in the country is possible in case there is a clear agenda to propel the process of growth in the country. Economically the masses are struggling with the market situation which is unpredictable and socially some disputes among various masses/communities are unsettled. As the leadership structures of the country have been fully setup especially the country’s parliament that houses the law makers whose decisions have great impact on the people, it is time for the country’s parliamentarians to have their eyes directed towards the people in the country and debate policies which can lift the people out of pain and disillusionment.

How can the people be lifted out of the pain and disillusionment? The perfect way would be finding out the reasons behind the pain and disillusionment. The people shouldn’t be forgotten and left disgruntled again like in the previous days and as the top government officials wish to have great shares in the country’s wealth; the people should be included in the consumption of the wealth as well. And as some people suffer yearly from the terrible floods, communal violence and outbreak of diseases which crises disrupt progress and development, the leaders need to employ collective effort to have these challenges eradicated in order to secure the people

With the terrible floods eradicated, diseases treated and combated and the communal violence eliminated, the question of “What about the people?” will disappear since the eradication of these crises would act as a sign of hope to the people whose lives have been affected negatively for long. The presence of the leaders should be felt as a blessing to the people of South Sudan and not a threat/curse.

How wonderful will South Sudan be, if the people’s concerns are honestly addressed and handled as priorities, it doesn’t require a miracle to have people’s lives changed, only agenda and hard work can transform South Sudan into a better country.  “The sadness in the people originates from the repetitive failures of their own governments”.
