FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARCH 10, 2011
The systematic mass killing carried out by the so-called SPLA, the Army of South Sudan Government against the Shilluk people in Panyikang County of Upper Nile State in South Sudan since March 6 th have claimed more than 200 of civilian deaths.
Many wounded are dying daily of the lack of medical care since Mr. Simon Kon Pouch, the Governor of Upper Nile State has closed the area and completely impeded the NGOs including the United Nations from getting into the area.
South Sudan Army is using massive force and shooting indiscriminately every Shilluk civilian around the villages of Dur and Owici. It has been reported that five young men who relocated to the area after returning from Khartoum have been shot dead in broad day light. The five young men were part of repatriates brought from Northern Sudan by the government of South Sudan.
We condemn the SPLA attack on the Shilluk armed group under commander Olony. The Shilluk armed group has no political agenda aside from the protection of the Shilluk Kingdom.
We hold Dr. Peter Nyaba, Mr. Gabriel Nyawello Jago, and Mr. Simon Pouch Kon accountable and responsible for the systematic mass killing in the Panyikang County.
We call on SPLA –General Chief of Staff, James Hoth to immediately declare a cease fire, stop the war of invasion, and end the occupation of the Shillluk Kingdom.
We condemn the SPLA, for murdering the injured civilians.
We condemn the mingling of the SPLA with civilian and we call for immediate removal of SPLA from the Shilluk Kingdom until a clear demarcation and building of military barracks.
We urge the international community and all the friends of South Sudan to intervene because any pattern of ineptitude and practice of in action will destabilize the region and endanger the future of the new nation to be born in July 9th.
We urge all the Human rights agencies to investigate the reported rapes of everything women including underage girls. We encourage the rights groups to open offices in Malakal town to monitor all the human rights abuses.
