
SRS has a team of nearly 40 journalists/producers based in Sudan and Nairobi, Kenya who report news and develop informational programming based on the journalistic principles of fairness and accuracy. SRS is looking to hire a Radio Studio Technician.
Radio Studio Technician
Job Summary
The Radio Studio Technicians will be responsible for the studios, recording equipment, the VSAT, backup power systems, and other equipment. They also take the lead, when needed, on recording in the studio and in the field, as well as compiling and uploading the final program builds. The Radio Studio Technician will report to the Deputy Chief of Party.
Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain the studio equipment in good working condition;

In the event of technical problems that cannot be resolved without outside assistance, work closely with on-call technical experts to make necessary repairs, modifications, and/or upgrades of equipment and software;

Oversee the recording and editing of programs using digital editing software;

Follow a program log and compile each day’s final broadcast by editing together various pieces produced separately;

Upload/download programs to/from the transmission facility;

Keep inventory of technical equipment, such as CDs, digital recorders, microphones, etc.;

Train assistants in radio studio operation and maintenance of equipment;

Take the lead role in collecting and storing audio, such as sound effects, music, etc.;

Assist producers and the marketing department in the creation and development of special programming, such as ads, public service announcements, dramas, etc.;

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
-
Be able to use professional studio, broadcasting equipment, and computers to record and transmit various audio programs.

Work timely and effectively to meet deadlines.

Experience with installing and repairing recording equipment, such as studio boards, tape recorders, etc.

Ability to use or learn to use VSAT technology for sending and receiving data streams.

Proficiency in Information Technology (IT), standard office software, audio editing software, and professional broadcast studio equipment.

Knowledge of Arabic language will an added advantage
Location
The Radio Studio Technician will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with frequent travel to Sudan.
