December 23, 2014 (JUBA) – The South Sudanese presidency on Tuesday announced lifting of the dusk-to-dawn curfew which existed in the capital, Juba.
The new directive reportedly came in the wake of an assessment by a security council, which was established in the aftermath of last year’s outbreak of conflict in the country.
Improvements in the general security situation in Juba and its environs prompted the directive.
“I, Awan Guol Riak, minister in the office of the president, in accordance with the directives from H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, would like to inform the general public that the curfew has been lifted in Juba effective from 23, 2014,” partly reads the order.
“All security organs are hereby directed to adhere to this declaration and to continue to observe law and order all times”, it adds.
