KUWAIT, Nov 21 (Bernama) - South Sudan will soon appoint an ambassador to Zimbabwe where a charge de'affairs has been its representative since it attained independence from Sudan in 2011.

In an interview with Zimbabwe news agency New Ziana on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa-Arab summit here, South Sudan Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Banarba Benjamin said the new envoy would be assuming duties at the end of December.

South Sudan has not had an ambassador in Zimbabwe since it broke away from Sudan.

"We have found a good person who knows our history, where we are coming from and where we are going," said Dr Benjamin.

Zimbabwe and South Sudan enjoy strong ties which date back to the days when Juba was fighting to break away from Khartoum.

The country also enjoys good relations with Sudan, a situation which has prompted Khartoum to recommend that the African country be allowed to mediate in its dispute with Juba.

South Sudan became an independent state in 2011 following a referendum in 2010 that passed with more than 99 percent of the vote.
