France welcomes the adoption by Sudan and South Sudan of the implementation procedures for the agreements of September 27, 2012, aimed at establishing a buffer zone. These implementation procedures, together with a detailed schedule, should make it possible to put the planned demilitarized zone at the border of the two states into operation and to deploy the planned monitoring mechanism. This further step removes the last remaining obstacle to the implementation of the agreements of September 27.
France urges the two countries to implement the other aspects of these agreements as of now and encourages them to continue in the same spirit of cooperation in order to find, as swiftly as possible and in an atmosphere of calm, a definitive solution to these issues that remain outstanding.
