BWDB holds meeting with South Sudan delegation

Bangladesh Water Development Board director general SM Shahidul Islam met with a high-level South Sudanese delegation led by the country’s humanitarian affairs and disaster management minister Albino Akoi Atak Mayom on Sunday.

They discussed various issues concerning knowledge and experience sharing of flood forecasting and early warning services along with disaster management at Pani Bhaban, in Dhaka, said a press release.

BWDB’s ADG (planning), chief engineer (hydrology) and high officials were presented and took part in the discussion. Officials from Bangladesh meteorological department, department of agricultural extension, and department of environment were also present at the event.

Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre

The delegation highly appreciated the activities of BWDB’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre. They were interested to work with Bangladesh on flood forecasting and management, as flood was a big problem for South Sudan.

About 70 per cent area of the country often flooded in rainy season and causing huge losses and damages, the South Sudanese delegation informed.
