South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has thanked Sibiloi village residents in Uasin Gishu for saving him when a plane he was travelling in crashed in the area in 1993.
On Sunday, April 2, Kiir sent a delegation led by his son Kiir Mayaden and the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, to the village with a message of appreciation and goodwill.
The delegation was received by Uasin Gishu senator Jackson Mandago, Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga, deputy governor Felix Maiyoamong other leaders.
In the accident, a plane carrying Kiir and four other people fell from 25,000 feet above the ground.
The plane was flying from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Kamoa, Nimule, and South Sudan.
The president sustained minor injuries. Unfortunately, one passenger was killed instantly.
Sibiloi residents who rushed to the accident scene ferried Kiir and his mates to Torongo Dispensary in a lorry.
They later transported them to Mercy Catholic Mission hospital in Eldama Ravine in Baringo County, which is located 42 kilometres away from Torongo.
Sibiloi resident Ezekial Keston is famed for rescuing the now-president.
