The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, stressed that the Juba Peace Agreement did not fail, “but it lacks regional and international funding and support,” calling on the head of the Sudan Liberation Army, Abdel Wahed Al-Nur, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement north of Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu to join the peace.
In a telephone interview with Asharq Al-Awsat from Juba, Salva Kiir revealed imminent talks between Juba and Khartoum aimed at reaching a final solution regarding the Abyei area file, explaining that when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in 2005, it was agreed on the right of the Abyei people to exercise their right to Self-determination, in conjunction with the referendum of the people of South Sudan, but due to some challenges and differences between the two parties did not take place, so that the Abyei issue became among the issues that are being discussed between the two countries, indicating that there is a committee comprising a number of officials in the two countries to discuss the final solution to the issue .
On the other hand, the President of South Sudan described his country’s relations with Saudi Arabia as “strategic”, stressing Juba’s aspiration to cooperate with Riyadh in various fields.
Salva Kiir reminded that South Sudan has many opportunities, “in which Saudi investors can invest, especially the oil and gas sectors, mining, agriculture, construction, roads and tourism.” We desperately need it.”
He added: “We invite the brothers investing in the Kingdom to visit South Sudan, to find out about these potentials in various fields and how to benefit from them for the benefit of the two peoples in the two countries.”
