Surrey Scorchers have announced the signing of athletic guard Padiet Wang (bbl.org.uk)
The South Sudan international joins Scorchers off the back of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers where the high-flying guard is averaging 5 points per game in under 20 minutes of court time.
The 6’4 guard started his 2021/22 season with Portuguese side Academica in the Portugal-Lisa Betclic before finishing the season playing for the Cobras in the recently launched African BAL.
It was here Wang demonstrated his versatility on the court as he averaged 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Prior to his professional career Wang grew up in Colorado and completed his collegiate career at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). In his senior year Wang impacted the court at both ends of the floor being named RMAC defensive player of the year and reigns as the all-time UCCS leader in steals.
“Playing with the scorchers this season should be very exciting! I know I’m excited,” said Jersey Wang.
“I think this team can go really far into the Play-offs with the new coaching staff and new signings. I can’t wait to get out there and get to work with the team and meet the loyal fans.”
Coach Lloyd Gardner added, “Padiet is an exciting player who I think fits well with our roster. He is a talented player at both ends of the floor and able to help a team win in a variety of ways.
“He is coming off a good year in Portugal and experience in the Basketball Africa League. I’m sure that the Surrey scorchers fans will enjoy watching Padiet and I look forward to him joining us.”
