UJOSS initiates capacity-building workshop for journalists in Bor

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) has launched a four-day capacity-building workshop in Bor, Jonglei State on Tuesday.

The workshop focuses on training journalists on reporting on the constitution-making process, safety and protection of journalists, role of media in advancing human rights, ethics and gender reporting.

About 27 participants are attending the workshop.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General of the State Ministry of Information, Mr Mohammad Chuol Peter appreciated UJOSS for the outreach program.

”I appreciate UJOSS for extending this important workshop to Journalists in Jonglei State," Mohammad Chuol said.

UNESCO representative Ms Doreen Loboka urged journalists to propagate peace through good writing. "I urge all journalists across the country to use the knowledge acquired to promote peace and educate the public about the constitution-making," she said.

She added, “I appeal to the state government to create simple mechanisms for easy access to information."

UJOSS Secretary-General Mr Majak Daniel Kuany who headed the executive team urged media practitioners in the area to prioritize professionalism. "You should take journalism very seriously and be professional at all times," he said.

The four-day workshop is expected to conclude on Friday.
