In Photos: Second medical relief convoy to South Sudan arrives: Egypt health ministry

The convoy was dispatched in implementation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to provide medical support to African countries, assisting them in times of crisis.

The minister added that the convoy was also sent as per South Sudan’s request for support in confronting the aftermath of recent rainfalls and floods that swept the country.

In December, Egypt sent a large shipment of  humanitarian and medical aid^[1] to South Sudan.

The convoy comprises doctors and consultants in paediatrics, chest diseases, and fevers with the aim of providing medical support to brotherly South Sudan in the areas most affected by torrential rains and floods, Mohamed Gad, the deputy minister of health and population for external health relations affairs, explained.

The statement noted that Jonglei State’s minister of health and director of administrative affairs of the South Sudanese parliament had visited the first medical relief convoy, praising the high level of services.

Cairo has also been a strong supporter of the efforts of the government of South Sudan in economic and technical development^[2] as well as its efforts to maintain peace and security within its territory.

Egypt has sent several medical aid shipments to Arab and African countries, including Tunisia, Sudan, Yemen, and Lebanon out of “its firm belief in the historical bonds and shared destiny with neighbouring countries and its keenness to maintain their stability and safety.”
