Many young girls in South Sudan face a bleak reality when they reach puberty. They stop going to school because they don`t have underwear and feminine hygiene products. African Soul, American Heart, a non-profit organization based in North Dakota, helps provide those girls with the supplies they need to stay in school.

"The little girls, of course, are looking at this as freedom. They call them freedom pads so that they can go to school. What happens so often, sadly, is that the little girls at thirteen or fourteen get sold for a cow or a goat or a pig," said Kay Link, an advocate for African Soul, American Heart.

A lunch will be held on April 21 at the Bismarck Ramkota for people to learn more about what girls in South Sudan face. The lunch is from noon to 1:30. For tickets and more information, contact Kay Link at (701) 258-6877. You can also visit africansoulamericanheart.org
