The call by government follows tensions between rival ethnic groups from the war-torn country spilling into Uganda.
Uganda is hosting scores of South Sudanese refugees, estimated at more than 1 million, after they fled the civil war in their home country.
Josephine Napwon Cosmos, the South Sudan Minister for Environment and Forestry, dissuaded the refugees from abusing the hospitality of the Ugandan people and government.
“They (refugees) should not bring their ethnicity annoyances from South Sudan to Uganda,” she said.
“We want them to live as brothers and sisters,” Cosmos added.
She welcomed the move by Uganda to open its borders to the South Sudanese refugees despite its own economic challenges.
Musa Ecweru, Uganda State Minister for Disaster Preparedness, said the country was committed to offer refuge to victims of the South Sudan civil war but warned the East African country was wary of spies under the guise of refugees.
Civil war has gripped South Sudan since 2013 when President Salva Kiir sacked his then-deputy, Riek Machar, on allegations of plotting a coup.
Thousands of civilians have been killed.
The rival leaders have recently reached a peace deal that is set to revive normalcy in the troubled country.– CAJ News
