Nikki Haley was right on target in her May 31 op-ed, “South Sudan has failed its children. We must not.,” when she worried about the next generation from South Sudan. I have personally observed it in 19 years of taking mission teams to work there or with the refugees in border lands. What she failed to point out is that for the past 60 years, only a few years have had peace, and generation after generation grows up without a concept of peace, without education, without the love of a family. It makes for a hardening that will take many years to break, but we must start with a cessation of hostilities immediately.
