GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS AND OBJECTIVES TO BE ACHIEVED

Organizational Setting:

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist Governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.


With the funding from the USAID, FAO is implementing the project entitled, “Sustainable Agriculture for Economic Resiliency (SAFER) Program in South Sudan”. This project aims to improve the ability of households and communities to withstand, recover from, and prevent shocks that negatively impact livelihoods – whether they are naturally occurring or related to violent conflict. Moreover, the project aims to play a key role in supporting agriculture to build the resilience of rural livelihoods. To improve livelihoods in conflict affected areas of South Sudan with stressed and crisis levels of food insecurity, the project will focus interventions on: (i) strengthening the resilience of the agricultural production systems; and (ii) increasing production as well as enhancing consumption, markets and livelihoods.


The Yambio sub-office will implement all activities in the Western Equatoria region.


Tasks and objectives to be achieved:

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in South Sudan and direct supervision of the Area Coordinator in Yambio and Senior Project Manager in Juba and in support of the Deputy FAO Representative, the incumbent will contribute to the implementation of the project.

The National Project Assistant Admin & Logistics will carry out the following duties:

    • Administrative and liaison support
  • Provide general administrative support to facilitate project activities and effective project implementation;
  • Liaise with the Administrative/Finance, Logistics, Procurement and Operations Units on a timely basis on relative issues relating to project implementation;

  1. Travel and training coordination
  • Coordinate and arrange travel – national and international – in support of project activities including preparing travel authorizations, processes requests for visas, ID cards, accommodation booking, transportation requests and other arrangements (maintaining electronic copies, and establishing a database record for the project);
  • Coordinate all logistical and procurement aspects for workshops, trainings and events including preparing the purchase request for venue hire and technical clearance, stationary and visibility item requests, vehicle requests, attendance sheet and DSA/DFA advance requests (will establish a database for the project of all trainings conducted);
  • Prepare applicable internal documents for operational advances (request and liquidations) and mission claims in respect to project travel and activities, and closely follows-up with the respective units;

  1. Project planning, monitoring and implementation  
  • Support the Area Coordinator or Senior Project Manager in organizing and conducting required meetings with stakeholders and planning exercises for the project;
  • Assist the Area Coordinator in the coordination and supervision of field operation;
  • Liaise with FAO Implementing Partners at State and County level and support the Area Coordinator in monitoring the IPs’ activities

  1. Performs other related duties as required.

Academic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance or human resource management.
