This Request for Expressions of Interest follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in UNDB on 3rd July, 2014, 2014 and The Citizen on 3rd July, 2014 and The Juba Monitor on 4th July 2014.
The Government of the Republic of South Sudan (GRSS) has received a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Proposed South Sudan National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS): Statistical Capacity Building Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards the cost of the Internship/Attachment program for Undergraduate and Postgraduates Statistics,Mathematics and Economics.
The assignment will last for a period of a month to three monthswith an option for extension subject to satisfactory performance which is expected to start May/June 2016 at National Bureau of Statistics, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Objectives of the Assignment
Make functional the newly established Statistics Units at Ministry, Departments and Agencies and support the designed National Statistical System. In addition, the program aims to develop and ensure future statisticians gain and acquire practical experience and capacity through mentoring, learning and development on the job training opportunities. Furthermore, the program objective will:

Secure highly motivated pre-professionals in the field of statistics;

Ensure that the National Bureau of Statistics and other statistical agencies acquire professional statisticians who are experienced in extracting and compiling statistical reports that aid operational and planning activities of government institutions;

Allow interns bring new perspectives to old problems;
-
Bring closer collaboration between the National Bureau of Statistics and public universities in South Sudan.

Enhance visibility of the National Bureau of Statistics and other statistics agencies on the South Sudan higher education institutions;
-
Allow a platform for innovations and creativity to the statistics operation;
-
Provide NBS proven, cost-effective way to recruit and evaluate potential employees for the National Bureau of Statistics and other statistical agencies;
-
Build National Bureau of Statistics’ image in the community byenhancing graduates engagement to achieve the National Statistics Systems performance;
-
Reduce the National Bureau of Statistics and other statistical agencies’ training costs; and
-
Support institutions of higher education in terms of data required for decision making and strategic planning.
The role would suit highly motivated graduates with a broad statistical knowledge and desire to develop and apply new and existing skills to help MDAs make the best use of their data. The intern will be working together with MDAs to understand, make functional and effective the system.

Scope of Service
The Intern shall perform all the necessary statistics related activities that would assist the National Bureau of Statistics and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to achieve the above-stated objectives. In so doing, the intern shall carry out all necessary tasks, including but not necessarily limited to the following:

Liaison MDAswith NBS and project team members;
-
Developmenttraining materials and delivery trainings;
-
Data sourcing, sharing and preparation for analysis;
-
Interpreting statistical analysis for policy development, evaluation/monitoring, forecasting, National Statistics;
-
Records keeping and management;
-
designing ways of collecting survey and administrative data;
-
Developing statistical tools for future data collection; and
-
Report writing and MDAs presentations.
All of the above tasks will be conducted by an intern in close collaboration with the National Coordination Team (NCT) and relevant department of NBS.

Eligibility Criteria
The candidate should fulfil following:

Qualifications:
-
Must have completed a Bachelor or Master degree with a major in a relevant discipline (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Economic etc);
-
The applicant must be a South Sudanese national and
-
Have strong communication skills in English to be able to write reports and interact with colleagues in the workplace.
-
Skills and Attributes:
-
Demonstrates strong persuasiveskills in presenting, negotiating and resolving complex issues;
-
Knowledge of IT tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet etc.

Strong analytical and programming skills;
-

Broad knowledge of statistical methods and their applications;

Excellent interpersonal skills;
