Dear Luos,
As we have planned during our Luo preparatory meeting we held on March 29 this year, we would like to extend our invitation this time to all Luos in the Diaspora which includes every Luo in U.S.A., Canada, European countries, Australia, or back home such as Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zaire (DRC).
This will be the first ever greater Luo conference we had in the history of our gigantic tribe. Based on the preparatory meeting we held on March 29, 2008 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the participants of that meeting have drafted an interim-body, known as Luo’s Reunification Organization, the LRO and appointed its temporary central committee team to be in charge in leading the conference we are calling. This conference has been scheduled to be held again in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on August 9, 2008.
As Luo young organizers, there are major challenges we face and concern about in dealing to organize this Luo community. These challenges are lack of Luo elders who are experts and committed to this process. Also we want to remind each and everyone about this Luo organization. It is an organization that just comes into an existence with still very few members and supporters. We still facing few challenges; including financial and communication difficulties that are some reasons it would be impossible for us to invite some very important influential members from 6 African countries that have Luos as citizens, especially at least one influential member from each 15 member-ethnic group. After the conference, LRO recommends each Luo ethnic group to perform its traditional dance. We request all 15 groups to organize their people and come well prepared to the conference. The LRO 15 member- ethnic groups we referring are followed alphabetically and are:
1. Alur
2. Anyuak
3. Acholi
4. Balanda Boore
5. Brunt “Broun”
6. Chollo
7. Joluo of Kenya
8. Jopodhola
9. Kumam
10. Lango
11. Luo of Bahr-el-ghazal
12. Maban
13. Pari “Lokoro"
14. Thuri
15. Zumzum
As members of recently formed Luo in General community, we are looking forward to hearing from you soon and hoping you have the opportunity to consider this invitation. We hope every Luo receives this message and gets a chance to attend this First Annual Greater Luo Conference. Your participation is appreciated and is more than welcome. If you have a question or comment, please feel free to so response. Thank in advanced for your time and consideration.
