Riek Machar: 57 killed in clashes in southern Sudan

Riek MacharKHARTOUM, Sudan – Clashes between militia and local government troops in a southern Sudan town killed at least 57 people and wounded nearly 100, a government official said Sunday.

More than two dozen of those killed in last week's fighting in the volatile town of Malakal were civilians, said Riek Machar, the vice president of the southern Sudan government, according to the official Sudanese news agency, SUNA.

Machar said 15 of the dead were militia fighters and 16 belonged to Sudan's armed forces. He also said 94 were wounded, SUNA reported.

He said the fighting broke out in Malakal, located about 400 miles (645 kilometers) south of the capital, Khartoum, after the arrival of Gen. Gabriel Tang Ginye — an officer in the Sudanese army who is accused of being involved in bloody clashes in the town in 2006.

The U.N. has a 10,000-strong peacekeeping mission in southern Sudan after a 2005 peace deal ended a nearly two-decade civil war between north and south Sudan that left an estimated 2 million dead.

Malakal has remained volatile despite the peace accord between Sudan's Muslim government in the north and the mostly Christian rebels in the south. The town lies next to Sudan's north-south boundary and close to some of the country's richest oil fields.

What is the civilian’s hope next? Civilian will now have no any hope for protection whether from SPLA or JIU. The Government of southern Sudan GOSS has paid deaf hears twice in both incident in which civilian were killed by SPLA Dinkas and again SAF militias. My condolence goes to the families of those who lost their beloved son and daughters in malakal tragic in which their contribution to fade of south will remain vacuum forever.

Where are : The Collo King, Elders, Politicians, Youth, and Collo people of faith : Christian or Muslim? What are they doing? protecting Collo lives can't be left to Collo SPLM leaders who have failed miserably to protect their own people while other community in Bhar El Gazal are living in peace.
Even you don't have to be smart to know the evil mind behind the deployment of SPLA personnal. How come the Upper Nile Dinka keeps their SPLA men in uniform in their community within Upper Nile? While Anyuak, Collo, and Nuer had send away. Where were SPLM Collo politicians when that decision was made?

Regime changes take places around the world. Democratic nations replace their leaders through vote and those nations being rule by dictators sacrifice their lives by waging war against their rulers or uprising.

We should not wait for Dinka government to kill more and more lives. Dinka has exterminated more than enough during liberation and they should not be allow to continue their brutal acts.
Every man and woman who suffer under Dinka brutality must join now to overthrow the government of Dinka.
CPA put it clear that militants have to join either SPLA or SAF. Paulino Matip has joined SPLA and Tanig joined SAF.
To fight within very populated areas of civilias is intentional extermination of the civilians. SPLA did it in 2006 and more than 150 civilians were killed. Again, it happened last month and more fifty civilians got killed.
Those who share pain under this failure GOSS must now join to change criminals in Juba

What can the citizens of South Sudan do to protect themselves since the GoSS has failed to protect them? I believe the first priority for any leader is to protect its citizens, but President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar have failed to protect the people of Upper Nile State. Will you vote for such leader who has failed to protect its citizens? I personally, will not vote for such leader in upcoming elections, I would rather vote for the leader who would be able to protect the people. If South Sudanese failed to make a good decision in upcoming election, they will continue to suffering in the hands of President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar. Once again it has been proven that the GoSS will not protect the people of Upper Nile state from barbaric (Nyagat) militant’s attacks.

My question to the GoSS: Why the GoSS failed in deploying enough SPLA troops in the Upper Nile and equips them well after the Tanginya attacked the Upper Nile state in 2006? The GoSS knew very well that Upper Nile State has become a centerpiece for the show of force by the Khartoum and its militants to destabilize the South Sudan and the GoSS should have not taken it slightly in the first place.

It is crucial that people of South Sudan must make a wise choice in the upcoming elections between voting for the leader from your tribe who will not protect you and your family or voting for a leader who is not from your tribe but he or she will be able protect you and your family.
