Open Letter to the Governor of Upper Nile State

Maj. Gen. Gatluak Deng With H.H the Shilluk King (Rath)His Excellency, it has come to our knowledge that some fellows from Jieng Dengjwol  wrote to you a letter in October  signed by their chief, in which they claimed the ownership of Makal, with threatening language demanding Collo community to evacuate the town to the west side of the White Nile and if not they will face the consequences.

In that letter they reminded Collo about brutality killing carried about by Dinkas during the reign of Rath Ayang. In that letter the writer expressed that king Ayang acknowledged that Collo kingdom boundary with Jieng is in the middle of White Nile. But in real sense this is misappropriate information, for it was not the king who said so but it was the commissioner of Jongelei, Michael Mario in earliest eighties.

As your subjects we want to know what decision have you taken against such terrors that seem to undermine your leadership. Indeed, if you did not brought them to justice, then this may open room for any community member to take the law with their hands, and for  those who feel threaten will react negatively, and consequently this will bring instability and it will destroy your good work in the state, which people begin to experience in state which were not there  since the creation of earth.

His Excellency, to avoid envisions in our state it will be most acceptable to confer the issues with concern communities. As leader of all, the intimidation and military forceful language should be ruled out in public matters, for it can bring setback to your political career.

Ironically, the issue of land is sensitivity one and must be handle with wisdom, for any leader statements will be taken seriously by the subjects, these statements could be the best tools and confederation that give evil doers to do something secretly or illegally.

In regard to the claim of Malakal ownership by Jieng and asking Collo to evacuate it  to western side of Nile, it would be wise for state Governor to call these two communities to the dialogue table to find out the truth about  this matter.

His Excellency, people of Malakal were delighted and pleased by your statement which you made to the people who approached your esteem office in request to distribute land in Obel area. In your respond you exclaimed that the land belong to inhabitants as it was stipulated in CPA. That implies you are leader who apply justice correctly, this positive position add more credit to your leadership. For these guys who approached your office for that matter were trying to use tribal belonging to achieve their distracted goals.

Shockley our Governor, you made contrary statement in Malakal which made people skeptical about contradicted statements. Your Excellency you declared that anyone who claimed the ownership of Malakal should be reported to you immediately so that you can deal with him. This last statement is very difficult to comprehend and conceive with your previous remark.

Now, people begin to wonder about the status of Malakal, and the question that posted itself is, does Malakal has no inhabitants? Your Excellency did you intend to direct you warning to Jieng who claimed Malakal recently or you were speaking to inhabitants who live in their  ancestral land for centuries? If your statement is directly to Jieng then it will be well taken but if it is not then you nullified your previous remark, which say the land belong to inhabitants as stipulated in CPA.

Yes, we had seen some progress in Upper Nile State whereby everybody is giving praise and acknowledgement, but this progress should not be in expense of inhabitant's community. We agree that the state is for all citizens but that does not mean the state should marginalize the inhabitants, for that is a deadly mistake.

If we believe in democracy system injustice remark need to be minimized by state Governor, it will be worthy mention that the Governor should not relinquish the positions, powers, or rights of Malakal inhabitants to others who claimed it ownership without proof evidences. For this will create tension, insecurity and instability within our state.

His Excellency, do you know that your statement that seem to suggest that Malakal belong to none, gave room to confederation idiom minded individuals to do illegal act in Malakal town by taken some plots that belong to others, because this land belong to no one. So my Governor can you see the negative impact of your statement which was interpreted wrongly by ambitious people to achieve their ill goals.

We appreciated your decision of collecting weapons and ammunitions recently in Malakal town that will ensure the security and development, because without security no progress can be accomplish.

Thank you Rev. Daniel for positing this dialogue between our king and governor Gatluak Deng who rules without consent of Malakal inhabitants.

Gatluak is from Dinka and that why he support Dinka intention of taking over Malakal as shows by his contradictory statements quoted by king.

Today, I have a call from Malakal that invaders Dinka in Collo villages have two days ago temporarily evacuated Collo villages in fear from roumor news that Collo is going to attack them.

Collo has no intention to attack them despite they dwell in Collo villages. However, talk that go on within Collo community is the way of telling Dinka people that their intimidation and exceeding further are intoleratable to Collo.

What made Dinka shortly to run away is fear of their true understanding that Collo has in measurable power and if Collo react, there is much pain. That is true because Dinka don't backdown from other tribes they humilate in other parts in South. Also the guilty consceince of wrong doing has innermost judgement.

Dinka politicans and Dinka people must know that their fear will turn into reality if they don't stop their idiotic politics.

    Hi Rev/Daniel Amum,
I am afraid that you are pursuing a position? it would be better for you to be consistent in your life. you only need to "preach the word... and do the work of an evangelist..." (2 Tim 4:2-5).don't allow those their minds have been blinded by the god of this age, those who reject Christ and prefer their own pursuits to distract you from your call.
Dear Rev/ Daniel, the Bible put it clearly that "... our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12).
therefore, you need to evangelize our people regardless of their tribal background, so that they will experience God's love and forgiveness. then they will know the truth and the truth will set them free

Listen Hakim, or whoever the hell you are! I think you are not really a Collo, that's why you can come out here at will, and speak nonsense about the Collo people freely.

Don’t try to be a smart ### dude … I can see where you are coming from with this ## of yours. And please stop quoting the Bible ignorantly as if you really know, or understand the theological meaning behind the songs you are chanting blindly. If you really know what you are talking about as you are claiming to be; then why did you neglected to mention, or failed to understand that Rev. Daniel Amum Adwel is only a human being after all, and is also suject to mistakes just like you and me? … That’s if, and only if what he posted on this forum here today is really a mistake.

Hypothetically speaking; let’s assume that he indeed made a mistake by posting this article here today for someone ignorant like you to see. Now can you please tell me what mistake did he really make … other than innocently posting an article that he probably didn’t even write himself, or you are just trying to be a ####?

Look it buddy; I suggest you should always keep your ###### tail between your #### legs when it comes to issues concerning the Collo people, or you’re going to always hear it from someone like me.

Dear William thank for your comment, I would like to assure you that I am not interest for any position because Holy position I hold is most gracious then any position under the Sun. The only thing we done understand about the Church is negative thinking that the Church should remain preach and allow evil continue practising their evil acts. Jesus declars to political leaders of his times who were Pharisees that ''The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the por; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the Blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,to proclaim the acceptable year The Lord ''(Lk.4:18-19), if you madiated upon this words the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to see the trust of matter. Your comment has made me to preach the Gospel to the readers: ''Tell the trust and trust shall set you free''(Jh.8:31). Here the Bible is challenging you and me by saying that:''IF you don't do what you know is right, you have sinned''(James 4:17).
Brother William, the Bible instruct us to: ''Speak and act like people who will be judged by the law that sets us free. Do this, because on the day of the judgment there will be no pity for those who have not had pity on others. But even judgment, God is merciful''(James 2:12-13). God Almighty told the leaders of Israel through his prophet Amos: ''You people crush those in need and wipe out the poor'' (Amos 8:4). The Lord authorizes the priests and the members ofthe royal family that justice was their duty (see Hoses 5:1).
The Church is the voice of the voiceless,if they don't speak out then for sure curses, dihonesty, murder, robery, unfaithfulness and violence will be everywhere. If you think I made this open letter for personal benefit, please delete this idea out of your mind. Do you know I was not called by man but by God himself, God is my witness.I have no fear for telling the trust.

PLEASE WILLIAM ACCEPT MY APOLOGY FOR MIS QUOTING YOUR NAME WRONGLY INSTEAD OF BROTHER AKIM INRESPOND TO HIS COMMENT. SORRY FOR THIS INCONVINIENCE AN INTENDED MISTAKE. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR THAT MISTAKE, GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  • Akim

first of all let me say a word of thank to you Kwopipan for all you have said.it is a surprise that a pastor wrote an open letter to the governor. if he is not careful, he will find himself being involved in politics that will definately ruin his ministry.
it doesn't mean that I am not a ocollo if I

  • Akim

It doesn't mean I am not Ocollo if i give a different opinion about what a writer has post. Different people react in different ways to the same situation.it is necessary for you to understand why people behave in the way they do and not. so don't write me off as being irrational and consider me not a real collo, if my opinion do not conform with yours

  • Daniel A. Odwel

Brother Akim I did not said you are not Ocollo, the only thing I react to is issue of thinking that I am looking for position in governmental sector, before becoming pastor I have my own professional career. Let me tell you it is not my first time to write to your leaders, before I wrote to the President of southern Sudan if you need me to repost this leeter in our website I can do it for your sack. Another thing you need to know who brought the freedom to the Block people in United States of Americe, it was pastor, Dr. Martin Luther, who fought oppressional government in South Africa, it was the Church under leadership of Bishop Destmoun Tutu, tell me did they changed their ministry, do they joined the government for that matter. Today I am displaced in my home land why does invaders didnot spare my life because I am pastor. Did you real want to tell me that let pastors close their mounths and allow evildoers continue practising their dead business. Personal I am not against you for having different opinion. In this letter there was nothing indicating that I am begging the Governor, it worthy health to approciate what others people did even though if you disgree with them. Yes I appreciate what he is doing in Malakal but I also challenge him because of his contradictory statements. Do not think that I just post this letter in this website only but I sent that letter to news papers. Here I felt to keep you inform but if you are not interested to be informed, I may not post any article to this website again. Thanks for all readers we will meet in other forums

  • Akim

my last comment is for brother Kwopipan Mr/ Daniel.is good to have people like you who will follow Dr/ Martin's feet steps in South Sudan.

  • William Okuch Dak

Matthew 18:6 "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."

18:7 " Woe to the world because of things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come."
My brothers and sisters, Lord Jesus used the children because child is born holy and unsin. Child begin sensing bad change upon birth by experiencing stranges smill, voices, colorful world and our injust teaching cause children to behave immorally.
At level of state people, governor is responsible to bring bad or good life to the people and you can understand that from different political language use be different leaders. "The truth will set you free
    ", said the lord.
Governor Gatlauk Deng used deadly political language as king mentioned because he intends to divide rather to unite, he intend to encourage Dinka to take over Malakal. This is one of beging confusion among one people who deserve living together.

In such confusion, should Malakal citizens be silence until it is too late for us to build confidence and brotherhood?
For the warness of Malakal people and to avoid bad to come, our dear Rev. Daniel Amum has revealed to us very little point about the innermost intention of governor.
To me, this revelation is one of preaching because governed people need to know the true personality of their leaders to support them or force them out of public office.
Brother Akim, remember that, many Saints and religious people have been killed and killing still going on because they are the only people to speak the truth because word of Lord "truth will set you free" hold them slaves to speak on top of roof.

My brother Akim, I respect your feeling, but please I sincerely call for your understanding that speaking the truth doesn't define our resposniblity. It is a sacrificial duty that starts at button of our hearts.

Do you forget that Marint King was pastor. He had took a redemptive mission. White people asked him to end his activities or loose his life which had scared him. You know why? Beacuse whites want others to remain ignornat to their rights.
But Martin had rationalized the importance of people than his life and he therefore had decided twenty-four hour later by saying "I has a dream." So his dream made him to be more decisive and you know the result of that dream nowadays.

Kwopipan Wad-Tit, I deeply understand your feeling due to aggressive language used by our brother Akim.
However, I recommend that it could be fruitful if we give advise to each other because we are team and family who need each other.

  • William Okuch Dak

God bless you my dearest rev. Amum. I read it and I have sincerely understood that you do not mean me before your apology. Take it easy.
Some time, world is not suitable place for right people because of their "true attitude and speaking truth" for which Lord Jesus said, " I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves.
May our Lord's that," for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you" be with you.
    Stay well.

  • Jwothab Othow

Sometimes, it is necessary for God's servants to intervene for the sake of peace to challenge our leaders to make sure that they work for peace and security for all the citizens. I sincerely thanks Rev. Amum for his courage to write an open letter to the Governor of Great Upper Nile about recent claim made by the Dinka community regarding the own ship of Malakal. If we ought to live in harmony in Great Upper Nile, our leaders should work for the best interest of all inhabitants in the Upper Nile and not to make any favoritism toward one particular tribe. May God continue to bless people like bro Rev.Daniel, who have been working tieless for peace among the inhabitants of Great Upper Nile? Please continue to guide our leaders to do the right things for all the citizens.
