After years spent in the refugee camps near Khartoum, 15 teachers along with their families have returned to South Sudan to teach and live in their birthplaces again. This is the first small groups of 'skilled' refugees out of a wider group of 264 people who will benefit from a reintegration program promoted by the International Migration Organization (IOM).
Each family shall receive basic supplies for the first three months; the program aims to fill some professional gaps noted by the government of South Sudan, which has identified the need to expand its education and healthcare sectors. Three years after the signing of the peace accords of 2005 that ended a twenty year internal war, this program shall also help the people of this country gradually resume a normal life; moreover, the program has also been designed to promote the return of Sudanese citizens currently residing abroad and who have already expressed willingness to return to Sudan.
