I was overwhelmed by the question of the uncertain death of our dear brothers, to name a few of the many, Lt. Bol Nyanyay, who passed away in Kampala two month ago and Col. Amum Othou, had one thing in common. The symptoms were suspected to be blood cancer. Both of them had old bullets wound, resulted from 22 years war of Sudan.
According
to the symptoms I had heard, I started to question myself, does
Ak47/GM3 bullets had leads (Pb)? Yes, can the lead cause blood cancer?
After, I visited (NCBI) National Center for Biotechnology Information databases, I couldn’t find a clue of the lead that causes cancer and yet our lab‘s (HPLC) High Pressure Liquid Chromatography and (GC) Gas Chromatography instruments could not analysis the lead(Pb) sample to extends that cause cancers.
Yes, it is true that there are five types of blood cancers; namely:
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia and Hairy Cell Leukemia.
Can these types of cancers, come as the result of bullets? Yes and No at the same time. It depends on, what in those bullets. First of all, the AK47/GM 3 that were used a lot during the civil war in Sudan had the leads particles.
Now, the question is can the bullet with the lead, cause cancer? .NO. Lead does not have that kind of toxic reaction in the body. Lead enters the body in two ways, it can be ingested and it can be breathed as fine dust. Part of the inhaled dust eventually enters the digestive tract. Once in the digestive tract, it is reacted with the stomach acids, goes into solution and can then enter the body. Lead that stays in the lungs can cause a form of pneumoconiosis or lung disease. Lead attacks the nerve system, the kidneys and the heart. It can because decreased sperm counts and cause a form of anemia. It does this by mimicing other necessary metals such as calcium, iron, and zinc and attaching itself to the proteins which would normally bind with these metals. By so doing, these proteins can no longer produce the enzymes that they once did. The answered to the quest is that Lead is not a carcinogen so there is no such thing as lead cancer.
Now let us look at the carcinogens elements’ toxicity in the bullets that cause a lot of cancers. What can we do to solve this problem? Can the GOSS hire some expertise to come and analysis the war equipment that was used during the war before it wrapped out all the generation, if the they have carciogen elements in them?
