SPLM appoint Nuba's Abdel Aziz Adam El Hilu as Secretary General

KHARTOUM, Jan 20 (Gurtong)

The Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) Chairman President Salve Kiir’s decree No. 01/2008 has appointed former Nuba Mountains rebel leader Abdel Aziz Adam El Hilu as the SPLM Secretary General. He replaces Pagan Amum, who is now a Government of National Unity Minister.

Decree:
1. In exercise of powers conferred upon me under article 19 (f) of the SPLM Interim Basic Rules and Regulations, 2006 and based on the recommendation of the SPLM secretary General, I, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, chairman of the SPLM, hereby decree the appointment of comrade Abdel Aziz Adam El Hilu as the SPLM deputy secretary general for organizatrional affairs with effect from 13th January 2008.

2. As the deputy secretary General for Organizational Affairs, Comrade Abdel Aziz shall be answerable to the SPLM secretary General and shall perform the following functions.

1. Coordinate and oversee the organizational work of the SPLM Southern and Northern sectors and Diaspora
2. Coordinate and oversee the SPLM programmes of cadres training and development.
3. Oversee the activities of the SPLM General secretariat.
4. Act as SPLM secretary General in the absence of the SPLM secretary general.
5. Perform any other functions or duties that may be assigned to him by the SPLM chairman or SPLM secretary general.
