Knowledge and education have their limits. To understand life and make right choice, we need the wisdom that can be found only in God?s word. When we realize that God will evaluate all that we do, we should learn to live wisely, remembering that he is present each day, and learn to obey his guidelines for living. But in order to have God?s wisdom, we must first get to know and honor him.
Our society honors wealth, attractiveness, and success above wisdom. Yet wisdom is a greater asset than strength. Opinions about life and philosophies about how we should live could be read and studied forever. It is not wrong to study these opinions, but because our life on earth is so short, we should make the best use of time by learning the important truths.Let us learn to appreciate wisdom, no matter whom it comes from. But ?Don?t be too good or too wise!? It is not difficult to think of cases where the fastest and the strongest do not win, the wise are poor, and the skilful are unrewarded with wealth and honor. To finish what we start takes hard work, wisdom, self-discipline, and patience. Any one with vision can start a big project. But vision without wisdom will result in unfinished projects and goals. Cooperating with others has advantages. Life is designed for companionship, not isolation, for intimacy, not loneliness. Some people prefer isolation, thinking they cannot trust anyone. We are not here on earth to serve ourselves, however, but to serve God and others. Don?t isolate yourself and try to go alone. Seek companions; be a team member. Advancement of getting to top is meaningless. Position, popularity, and prestige are poor goals for a life?s work. Although many pursue them, they are shadows without substance. Government leaders, businesses, families, even churches get trapped into thinking money can meet all their needs. We throw money at our problems. But just as the thrill of wine is only temporary, the soothing effect of the last purchase soon wears off, and we have to buy more. Scripture recognizes that money is necessary for survival, but it warns against the love of money. Money is dangerous because it deceives us into thinking that wealth is the easiest way to get everything we want. The love of money is sinful because we trust money rather than God to solve our problems. Those who pursue its empty promises will one day discover that they have nothing because they are spiritually. Money talks and it can confuse those who would otherwise judge fairly. We hear about bribes given to judges, police officers, and witnesses. Bribes are given to hurt those who tell the truth and help those who oppose it. People who involved in extortion or take bribes are indeed fools, no matter how wise they thought they were beforehand. It is said that everyone has a price, but those who are truly wise cannot be bought at any price. Paulino Jouth
