Why don?t Chollo learn from the neighboring communities?

I have registered myself as an online member of Pachodo.org website in order to acquaint myself with some of Chollo cultural aspects which I might not know but to my dismay when ever I logon to www.pachodo.org website all I get there are non-other then the political articles from our young politicians who are tearing each other with their knowledge of political hatred which is helping to exacerbate the wounds of the partition that our politicians have sowed in our hearts.
Since the Sudan People's Liberation Movement suspended its ministers and advisers complaining of Khartoum holding up implementation of the 2005 peace agreement, particularly the provisions defining the border between north and south-- a sensitive issue because the border runs through some of the country's best oil-producing regions. Pachodo.org is again becoming another battle field for the groups (the frogs and the Komodo dragon) who are tearing each other apart in support of their different political leaders/masters. Recently there was an issue of Fashoda County lacking qualified teachers to teach English curriculum and nobody ever dear to comments on it or even response, but if an article on political issue is posted it doesn?t even take an hour before the arguments start up here and there. Fashoda County lacks qualified teachers to teach
International officials have been warning for months that north-south peace deal is in danger of collapsing -- a crisis that has been largely been overshadowed by efforts to end Sudan's biggest current conflict, the bloodshed in the western region of Darfur. Observers warn that renewed war between the north and south would throw all of Sudan into turmoil. "The SPLM has recalled all ministers and all presidential advisers to the government of national unity," the party's secretary-general Pagan Amum told The Associated Press in Juba, which serves as the south's capital. Let?s take for instance Mr. Musikari Kombo (a cabinet minister in the Kibaki administration in kenya) and (ODM presidential running mate) Mr. Musalia Mudavadi the two come from one community (Luhya) in western Kenya on Sunday Kombo described Mudavadi as a politician who has consistently betrayed the region?s unity and betrayed its course. Mr Kombo, who is leading the Party of National Unity (PNU) campaign in the region as well as in North Rift, said that Mr Mudavadi chose the opposite path in 1992, 1997 and 2002. ?I have always hesitated to say this but time has now come to set the record right. When we were fighting for the second liberation in 1992, he was comfortable with Moi. In 1997, when western should have supported Michael Wamalwa, he was still in Kanu. In 2002, he opposed the Narc wave and look at where he is now,? said the Ford-K chairman who was meeting party officials in Eldoret.
What can you learn from the above paragraph? The central issue here is the community interest vs self interest of which our so-call community political leaders have not addressed instead they are fighting each other to climb the community political supremacy ladder, first without attaining it through the community leaders that the Chollo community at large may rally behind you and support you tirelessly, because one thing I want to advise you is that ?CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME? always any winning politician do based his/her political agenda on issues that are affecting the community and not the position he/she want to hold. We need to put our nation's interest first before individualistic interests. We have to eradicate tribalism and move on as a unified strong people without prejudices and segregation. We can copy this form of political establishment from the west where everybody is treated equitably under the rule of law and the constitution irrespective of their genders and tribes. Where nepotism and corruption can be checked and balanced through transparent and fair judicial processes that legitimately are of everyone's interest and support. Transparent socio-economic and political system allows for accountability and responsibility so that when things go wrong individuals can reflect on the norms and rules enshrined in the system and peace will prevail. Thus, our youth should be meaningfully engaged in the socio-economic and political establishments? right from the grassroots levels.
These could be the reason why some of our community members had posted questions on this website sometime back asking why there were no any member of our community who ever become a president and of course the history of Sudan is telling us that since the signing of the Addis Ababa agreement (1972) where Southern sudan became semi outonomous for the first time .The first president was Mr. Abel Allier from Dinka (Bor) appointed by Jaafar Numairi President of the Republic of Sudan ,and here we ask " how did Mr. Allier or (Dinka Bor in Upper Nile Province by then) Convinced Numairi to nominate him to be the first Southerner to governe South Sudan, or did the President of the Republic got convinced with equation of balance and check (the biggest tribe in the South), and if it was the case, why didn't he nominated someone from Baher el gazal or( Aweil in particular) from the same tribe. The second President of the South was General Joseph Lagu from small Maadi tribe in Eastern Equatoria the same questions apply. The third was Abel again,The fourth was James Tombora from Zandi, then redivion. The fifth was James Loro from Eguatoria, during Swar El Dahab Presidency. Then came Kahrtoum agreement (1997) With Dr. Riak Machar from Nuer Bantiu followed by Dr. Riak Gai from Nasir.(Fashoda agreement got us Ministry of Road and transport better then nothing!!) And the big one CPA has came with our late unforgetable hero Dr. Garang from Bor followed by the current President Salva Kiir from Gogrial nominated to the position by the Splm Leadership Council. by analysing the data the position was not confined to one tribe although the Dinka got it more than once ,and my conculion is, we are not playing the game very well .And if we want to win the game ,we need to learn all sorts of playing tactics as Mr. Lwanyo Awang
All over the world the youth play a significant role in bringing substantial socio-economic and political contribution for better governance. When the youth are organized it will be equally substantial for them to work towards the strength of the nation. Therefore, our youth should be seriously and meaningfully involved right from the grassroots levels to contribute to the socio-economic and political development (and political of hatred) of our country. But one wonder on how can the youth be included in the decision-making process at this time when their mind have been wounded by these selfish politician?

Dear brother John,
Thanks for your enlightenments and advices and the truth you have mentioned in your article about what happening within Chollo youth or Chollo community. We all should know that truth is truth event if one denied as some of us seemed to deny it in their comments. It is good that somebody from other communities challenging us or criticizes us but more importantly let’s have a mind that open to all possibilities and attached to nothing. I believe what brother John mentioned in his article is true and no one can deny that unless you are just ignorance of what happening in Chollo community. Many Chollo youth have difficulties to stick together because many of youth have been poisons by their political leaders who are dividing Chollo community for their political self- interest and forget the welfare of Chollo community in general. Therefore let’s be vigilant and humility when others criticizes us about our weakness and the role we are supposed to plays in our community. It is true that everywhere in the world today, youth have important roles to play in their communities as John said, “All over the world the youth play a significant role in bringing substantial socio-economic and political contribution for better governance. When the youth are organized it will be equally substantial for them to work towards the strength of the nation. Therefore, our youth should be seriously and meaningfully involved right from the grassroots levels to contribute to the socio-economic and political development (and political of hatred) of our country. But one wonder on how can the youth be included in the decision-making process at this time when their mind have been wounded by these selfish politician?” So brother let’s not be mad and making unnecessary retaliatory comments when other people criticism us but let’s use the criticism of others to help us think and change the way we do things. Okay!!

Hi John.
Your article is very discouraging for the capacity building of the youth you are talking about and it is very destructive for the possibility of Collo politcians descend to high leadership in the country.
1. Kenya is not at all a good country for collo to learn from so please you better refer us to another community.
2. It is not true that Pachodo website publishes political articles alone. It publish other informations and it is upto you to choose what you want. If you like culture you will get it there. So please don't attempt to dictate what you want to be the same for what other Collo memebrs want. Let each one be free to write, read and comment on what he want to share with his brothers and sisters. Even your article is political and you want to pretend that you do not like politicds. Why don't you be true to what you want than being hypocrat?
3. If you read about the shortage of teachers in Pachoda county why you did not comment on it yourself if you are concerned more than others about collo's challenges. Why didn't you lead to comment so that others follow than just pointing one finger on them while four are on you.
4. If you agree that charity begins at home, you should not be scared when some of the youth defend their collo political leaders and others criticize them. When there are hot issues and threats faced by collo politicians (and from whatever team they are in), who ever hide his head in the sand is a traitor of collo interest. I salut the youth who defend or criticize H.E Dr. Lam and H.E. Pagan Amum and advice them not to listen to the wrong advice of John. United or devided we need to defend the one we agree with because they have done their best in differernt ways. We have to support them (even if we are different camps) because their chance and time is limited and ours is still extended for leadership. There is no real politics without youth support. If you take away the youth behind these leaders then you have destroyed them and it will take long time for Collo to get alternatives. If you take away the youth behind those leaders then you will not be able to play the game of the possibility of a Collo man becoming a president of GoSS or of the Sudan in near or mid future.
5. Collo is not an island; its youth even at the grassroots must be educated and made awared about what is happening beyond their territory, which affect them directly or indirectly. The crisis within the SPLM and in the whole Sudan now is affecting the Collo and therefore we should give our opinion about it without any fear. Let us criticize or even insult oursleves on those hot issues and at te end of the day we would have engaged our thinking capacity to find solutions. Silence is death when there are destructive threats so please do not discourage those who are concerned. Just join them or keep your head in the sand when you would be surprised with an unseen blow from behind.

Dear Okuki
Please don’t feed a silkworm that's sleeping ok?
And also walk slowly in pursuit of your dreams and remember that what we do not understand we do not possess
Bees that have honey in their mouths have stings in their tails. And the most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't being said. You can drag a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
I can’t feared getting involved in politic in fact what I would have feared is what you have feared all your lives to get involved in until recently when dust settle and the hyenas can come out from their hideout for the privileging greener pasture.
I did joint the Liberation struggle earlier enough in 1986 when you were still pushing sand home but not now when people are being carry only by their stomach to support their so-call favorite political leader.

Hi John,
thank you for your article in which you focus on youth matter. My brother youth does not occupy a special perch outside its social and political environment. it is very much part of a community. they engage in struggles for the realization and defence of concrete social ideals and interests. the youth behaviours could be a result of their social origins and political status in the process of social interaction.
therefore, it is not a surprise to observe that; "......if an article on political issue is posted it does'nt even take an hour before the argument start up....''. that is not bad, but the problem is that it sometimes develop to personal hatred to the extent of using abusive words. why all these? because our political leaders for their self-interest entail negative impacts that result from confluence of suscptible followers and group loyalties. Our leaders should guide youth to become the backbone of the emerging youth movement. they should provide positive norms: rules of behaviour, morals, values, obligations for service and giving back.they should empower youth to make a difference in their community and cultivate their believe that they can and will make a substantial differences. most importantly they should examine the revolutionary potential of the working youth on the basis of a comprehensive and profound study of their socio-economic, and political status. in these ways, youth will "play a significent role in bring substantial social-economic and political contribution...." as you put it.

I do not agree that our politicians have divided Collo and poisoned the youth. As politicians they have only attracted supporters on whom they can rely for maintaining their current political career and even getting more than that. It is their right to seek supporters and it is upto any one to support any of them. otherwise it is meaningless for them to be called politicians. Collo had their own internal problems of differernt kinds even before those politicians came to the fore. So please let us be fair to them and not throw on them any dirt of our own. Do not discourage the youth to support them because they were also youth at one time supporting elder politicians of their generation. Now it is their chance to be supported inn our generation and we should not let them down. Our chance will also come in future when younger generation will also support us. Let us descend beyond our anger and be reasonable in our judgement.

First and foremost let me extend my sincere thank to Brother Otuk J. Chwoy, James Okuk, Tipo Mel, Jwothab Othow and those who are still commenting for sparing time to read my article and gave their fruitful comments.
So therefore, let’s not forget that this is a public forum and all I was concern about is for our youth have a chance and a free environment for them to play a significant role in bringing substantial socio-economic and political contribution for better governance. I want the youth to be organized so that it will be equally substantial for them to work towards the strength of the nation.
You know our politician should put community interest first and not their self interest because if you go to the community leaders in the village now you will be surpise that there are some politician whose their names are not even known and they have not addressed it in form of marketing themself first instead they are fighting each other and how do you think the Chollo community can rally behind them and support them tirelessly, like when I advise that “CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME” I did mean that always any winning politician do based his/her political agenda on issues that are affecting the community in term of service dilevery and not the position he/she want to hold. We need to put our nation's interest first before individualistic interests and that is what youth should be asking these politician that what do you have for our community? and how will we benefit from supporting you as youth?. These two questions should form the basis of our support to them otherwirse it will be meaningless.
I did not see or heard any of these our political leaders calling chollo youth meeting one day to tell them how he/she want to be support by youth apart from operating with the underground youth movement. politic is a game of majority in which you focus on winning the people from the other side to your side but not to the extend the if we are political rival we can’t share one table like how it’s happening now

Thank you John Lwong for getting back on tract of fruitful discussion. We need to discuss the consquencies of our pulling out from supporting our politicians in short and long run. We need to understand clearly why we support them and why they seek our support before we jump to condemn them. John has raised an important issue that they should be judged on how they are popular on the ground in our villages and among the chief for what they have done there. Should we built on this point or do we have another criteria of how the youth should support Collo elder politicians? Or should the youth delink themselves totally from those politicians because they are self-interested as John put it (if at all he is right in his judgement). It will be good if John support this later judgement with some concret examples so that we discuss on what is real than imagined.

It is not a matter of our support to our politicians or our political leaders, but how to solve the practical problem that facing Chollo community, because of them. Our country had been in war for years. As a result of that many young people try to survive in acute poverty, and are separated from their families and community. In addition to that they face the barriers of a lack of sufficient education, livelihood opportunities and family support.
since the peace agreement has been signed, the implementation of the developmental programs should be the priority in the side of our politicians within the community. their goal should be as an encouragement to youth to play a role in peace building and to promote the active participation of youth in our community. Also they should seek to actively rectify and promote a healthy image of youth participation in public policy discussion, because youth has to play a prominent role to provide leadership for the future. But what I personally see and find is the reverse; if I am mistaken, our politician use innocent young people to create conflict and division within our community such as Mr/ X and Y group not to mention the names, otherwise our politicians should address the issue of division seriously for the sake of the community unity. and because of poverty and joblessness many of young people fall victim to be used by the politicians to intensify the problem. whatever the difference in style of leading, our politicians share a common mistrust of the people they claim to represent. we need to pray to God for our leaders and those who have responsibility and authority in our community, so that God will give them wisdom to know what is right and we may work together in trust for the welbeing of our community in particular and south Sudan at large.

Dear Tipo, thank you a lot my brother surely It is not a matter of supporting our politicians/political leaders or not, but the fundamental issue here is how to solve the practical problem that facing Chollo community as you put it and this is the point we are missing as youth leaders. I personally propose that we as youth should initiate the reconciliation process for our political leaders to reconcile and common developmental and political objectives for our community, these processes should be initiated and implement by youth themselves and of course with other trusted community leaders.
As a nation, we face a challenge of tremendous consequence that we cannot continue to ignore. The economic future of our country depends on the next generation of young Southern Sudanese or Chollo for that matter becoming ready for college, work, and life. Sadly, however, many of our young people are reaching young adulthood without the skills and competencies they need to succeed. Thousands of youth are being left behind, disconnected from the societal and economic mainstreams, and are falling into harm’s way. We overlook disconnected youth at our own peril. One in three youth (I may say althus we don’t have employment statistic yet to show but I assume) that more than 50 percent of minority youth—who start high school will not graduate four years later or so. Employment for teens is at the lowest level. It is our moral obligation to make sure all Chollo youth have the opportunity to succeed, and it is our responsibility to ensure our nation’s economic health. As the “baby boom” generation prepares for retirement, and as an increasingly competitive global market requires healthy workers with higher skills and education, our nation’s youth must provide the brainpower and manpower to fuel our economy, fill our skilled jobs, renew our civic life, and keep our nation safe. Only comprehensive investments—made now—will reconnect these youth and secure their future and those of their families, their communities, and the Southern Sudan as a whole.
I suggest that Our politician should at least at the community and state level involve young people in finding solutions for their own generation, Young people can and should work hand in hand with adults to craft solutions to the challenges their communities face. For instance we wouldn’t dream of creating a commission on the status of women without including women on the commission. But every day, groups of adults discuss the problems young people face without ever consulting youth themselves. Policy solutions:
• Form a National Youth Council, comprised of young people from across the country, to work with the State Youth Development Council (SYDC) (which should be form at the state levels), bringing young people’s unique perspectives to bear on the critical decisions affecting their lives
• Encourage the development of state and local councils of youth to bring perspective into local youth programming and to provide input on the work of the SYDC and the National Youth Council (NYC) which also should be form at the GoSS level

Dear Brother John,
I sincerely appreciate your deep concerns and advice to empower chollo youth to become self reliant and to build a better Chollo community. What you have written is more than comments. I believe you have written a serious proposal that will needed to be taken seriously. Hi folks,
some of the members in this board remain silent and anonymous as well and a time this silence is broken down to let one commence on the issues sensitives to the entire community of Chollo kingdom.John, thanks for the article which is full of advices which need to be taken into consideration as some of our brothers have already taken side of becoming a double whammy to the chollo kingdom and therefore i call them as detractors who are like a little fish that float with the shark, they attached themselves wherever the shark goes as they cling on it. but article you have posted will acts like a refernce to them as their future is being narrowed.

The truth is:
When masters/ leaders are walking in jealous, the youth are getting confuse. Because jealous brings confusion in the community. At this time the youth are in panic and they need an intensive care from someone who is capable to tell the truth like, Bro,John. It is hard to explain, but we want the youth to walk above the jealous, because we are supernatural.
